Ornamisms, our latest project, will be unveiled during Munich Jewellery Week 2024 in the exhibition Visions, Ventures & Valuables

This exhibition presents the artistic research of jewellery artists Liesbet Bussche, Maria Konschake and Anneleen Swillen, which they are developing as PhD or postdoctoral scholars at Hasselt University and PXL-MAD School of Arts Hasselt.

Greg Scheirlinckx and Anneleen Swillen are currently training a machine learning algorithm on close-up images of jewellery captured on the skin, generously shared by 96 participants in response to our open call.

CONFERENCE 

Anneleen Swillen will give a lecture about her research during AR@K24's symposium 'The Artist, The Ghost, and The Machine' on March, 18th, in Oslo

ONE DAY ABOUT AI AND CRAFT PRACTICES  Agnieszka Knap, Patricia Domingues and Anneleen Swillen are organizing a conference on AI and craft. Petra Jääskeläinen, Nora A. Kahn, Anna Mlasovsky, and Dr. Magnus Sahlgrenn, as well as Agnieszka, Patricia and Anneleen, will give lectures on the subject. Anneleen will share insights from her postdoctoral research with a focus on co-creating more-than-human adornment with machine learning (24/11/2023, Konstfack, Stockholm).

RESIDENCY    

 20//TWENTY STADTBAD
 June - Dec. 2023, Greg Scheirlinckx and Anneleen Swillen had the pleasure of participating in a digital residency organized by Stadtbad Kunstforum. In collab with Miriam Taschler and Carla Petzolt, they have created three new videos on the intersection between choreography, dance/movement research, machine vision, digital adornment and phygital embodiment. All the pools of the participating artists (10 duos in total) can be visited online.

  The project was presented during ‘IMMERSIVE X – The next reality’ conference (29/11 and 30/11/2023) as well as exhibited in ' SCHAU MIR IN MEIN FENSTER, Zeitgenössische Videokunst' (15/12/2023 - 15/01/2024, at  the St. Johanniskirche in Brandenburg an der Havel (DE)) 

EXHIBITION

LET’S GET PHYGITAL

  an exhibition showcasing Augmented Reality jewellery created by students from London College of Fashion (LCF), Estonia Academy of the Arts (EKA) and PXL-MAD School of Arts in Hasselt (9 – 29/11/2023), Tallinn (13/11 – 18/12/2023) and London (14/05-22/06/2024). During the opening night of the exhibition at PXL-MAD (9/11/2023), there will be a panel discussion featuring Mala Siamptani, Darja Popolitova, Anneleen Swillen, Ine Vanoeveren and Guus Vandeweerd.Furthermore, on 30/11/2023, Mala, Darja and Anneleen will host a panel discussion at EKA in Tallinn.

The event at PXL-MAD is generously supported by Hasselt University and PXL-MAD. 

WIE WAT VINDT HEEFT SLECHT GEZOCHT
 a group exhibition showcasing works from eight researchers and artists affiliated with PXL-MAD (24/11 – 26/11, Atelier David Gotlib, Antwerp). Greg scheirlinckx and Anneleen Swillen will present "Ornamutations", an ongoing Artificial Intelligems project.

Both "Let’s Get Phygital" and "WIE WAT VINDT HEEFT SLECHT GEZOCHT" are part of "Obsessed! Jewellery Festival” organized by Current Obsession

Wednesday April 19th at 7pm, within the context of Studium Generale, we will perform Mirrored Dwellers at De Singel Arts Centre in Antwerp!  After the performance, researcher and performer Ine Vanoeveren will give a lecture 'Breaking the fifth(?) wall (?)'.

 Focusing on spectatorship and the Virtual, she will reflect on changing and merging roles/experiences of audiences and performers within virtual settings.  

To conclude, there will be an extensive Q&A, where Ine will invite Anneleen Swillen and Kristof Timmerman to the stage as well.

On Thursday 27th of April, 1 - 2pm, Anneleen Swillen will give a lecture on her research into artificial intelligence and jewellery. During this lecture, she will talk more about the fluid collective Artificial Intelligems, co-creating with machine learning and what questions it raises for human-centred design, materiality, crafts, creativity or authorship.

Founders of Artificial Intelligems Greg Scheirlinckx and Anneleen Swillen will give a lecture on Cha(lle)nging adornment through artificial intelligence. A critical exploration of machine learning as co-creator in jewellery practice during Inhorgenta 2023 on Sunday, 26th of February, 2023.

Researchers in the arts Anneleen Swillen and Ine Vanoeveren, in collaboration with research interns Esther Verstreken, Guus Vandeweerd and Senneke Van de Wygaert, present their new project Mirrored Dwellers during Point of View, a conference on the conditions of spectatorship (a collab between PXL-MAD School of Arts, RITCS and Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles). Performing Ornamutations. Exploring spectatorship and user experience through acts of adornment, embodiment, personification and intra-active phygital impressions within mixed realities at RITCS, Thursday, 23rd of March, 2023. 

For their third edition of Let’s get Phygital, jewellery artists, researchers and tutors Mala Siamptani (London College of Fashion) and Darja Popolitova (Estonia Academy of the Arts) invited Anneleen Swillen to collaborate with them on a lecture series and exhibitions. Students from the London College of Fashion, Estonia Academy of the Arts and PXL- MAD School of Arts, Hasselt will explore digital technologies in design practices and create AR filters. As part of the course, Anneleen Swillen, in collab with Patricia Domingues, Ine Vanoeveren and Greg Scheirlinckx, will present a lecture on AI in jewellery practice. (course: February - March 2023. Exhibitions: Fall 2023 - Spring 2024. For students of the affiliated universities only).
